39 'deadbeat' parents caught in raids

HACKENSACK -- Thirty-nine "deadbeat" parents were rounded up in a series of weekend raids by the Bergen County Sheriff's Department, officials said Monday.

The raids, conducted on Saturday by the sheriff's Warrant Squad, led to the arrest of 37 men and two women who owed a collective $351,472.43.

Almost $38,000 has been collected since the arrests, and four people have been remanded to the sheriff's Work Release Program to begin paying off their debts.

"These arrests are proof positive that this agency will do whatever it takes to make sure the children of Bergen County receive the support that is due to them," Sheriff Leo P. McGuire said. "Deadbeat parents in Bergen County should take note of these arrests."

Among the people taken in was Joseph Dufalo, 44, of Rutherford, who owed $1,456 in child support.

About three years ago, a Joseph Dufalo, 41, jumped from a second-story window of his East Rutherford apartment to escape deputies trying to arrest him for failing to pay child support.

He injured both hips when he landed and was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center. He was unemployed at the time and owed $1,470 in child support.

Authorities were unable to confirm Monday whether it was the same person.

Andrew Daniels of Englewood topped the list of deadbeats, owing more than $67,000 in child support.

The next highest on the list were Warren Lucious of Westwood with about $25,000 owed, James Fitzgerald of Lyndhurst, who owed almost $23,000, and Ronald Ross of Rutherford who owed about $18,000.

Other people picked up included:

Dumont: Keith Walsh, Dumont, $4,383.

Edgewater: Angelo Salicetti, $2,964.

Englewood: Leslie Ingram, $4,356.

Fairview: Steven Glanbock, $11,200; Earl Keyser, $8,465; James King, $14,212; and Scott Winters, $985.

Fort Lee: Rafael Elgrabli, $16,527.

Garfield: Tyree Bunch, $2,694; Michael Chermark, $17,488.51; Levar Jackson, $827; Dariusz Kotwica, $8,196; Michael Maguire, $2,955.

Hackensack: Wanda Gratton, $3,807; Anthony Laino, $3,114; Regina Lee, $1,570.

Lodi: Lukasz Chodur, $10,121; Vincent Focarino, $16,000; Devon Jones, $747; and Dennis Melendez, $1,676.

Lyndhurst: Jody Kwiatkowski, $6,016.

Mahwah: Robert Cottle, $1,458, and Arthur Mann, $1,054.

New Milford: George Pimm, $8,057.

Norwood: George Progakis, $1,387.

Paramus: Joseph Poveromo, $6,309.

Park Ridge: James Meade, $16,200.

Ridgefield: Javier Perez, $14,765.85.

Rutherford: Clifford Boan, $1,585.

Saddle Brook: Christopher Piazza, $2,142.

Saddle River: Alan Terenzio, $2,999.
